Combat Veterans For Congress National Press Release

The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is pleased to announce the appointment of a Combat Veteran to the Board of Directors; he is fiscally conservative, supports our efforts to reduce the national debt, rein in the out of control and irresponsible spending by the Obama Administration, and has continued his pledge to protect and defend the US Constitution.   Captain Larry W. Bailey, USN (SEAL) (Ret), a native of Marshall, Texas, is a 28 year Veteran of the US Navy.  Larry Bailey graduated from Marshall, TX, High School in 1957.  In 1962 he obtained a BS degree from Stephen F. Austin State College in Nacogdoches, TX.  His civilian education culminated in a Master's Degree in Education Administration from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, in 1980.  He is a graduate of Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA; the US Army Foreign Area Officer School in Ft. Bragg, NC, and a multitude of combat skills schools ranging from UDT Replacement Training in Little Creek, VA, to Airborne School in Ft. Benning, GA, to Military Freefall School in Ft. Bragg, NC.

Larry Bailey was sworn into the US Naval Service in June 1962 upon entering Naval Officer’s Candidate School, Newport, RI; upon graduation Ensign Larry Bailey was assigned to the USS Leary (DDR-879) as Assistant Engineering Officer.  Not finding destroyers to his liking, he volunteered for Underwater Demolition Team Replacement Training, the precursor of today’s BUD/S, or Basic UDT/SEAL, Training.  After completing a year at UDT-22 and leading his platoon on a Caribbean amphibious deployment, he was transferred to SEAL Team TWO, where he was second-in-command of a SEAL platoon that participated in the 1965 invasion of the Dominican Republic and where he first came under enemy fire.  In 1967, he commanded one of the first SEAL Team TWO platoons to deploy to Vietnam, where he conducted numerous combat and intelligence-gathering operations.  Upon returning from Vietnam, he led a Mobile Training Team to Cartagena, Colombia, where the team trained Colombia's first SEAL-equivalent unit.  Leaving the Navy in early 1968, he worked for a year as Executive Director of the Tarrant County, Texas, Republican Party.  Returning to active duty in late 1969, LT Bailey rejoined SEAL Team TWO prior to being ordered to UDT-12 in Coronado, CA, as Executive Officer.  While in that billet he deployed to Subic Bay, Philippines, as Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Special Warfare Western Pacific Detachment.  Upon completion of his tour with UDT-12 in mid-1971 he reported to the Amphibious Base at Little Creek, VA as Assistant Operations Officer at the new Naval Inshore Warfare Command.

In 1973, LCDR Bailey was assigned as Plans Officer at the US Southern Command in the Panama Canal Zone.  In 1975 he was assigned as Navy Section Chief at the US Military Group in La Paz, Bolivia. In 1977, CDR Bailey reported to the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA, and graduated in early 1978.  In 1978, LCDR Bailey began a five-year tenure at Ft Bragg, NC, at what is now Special Operations Command, Atlantic.  Subsequent tours were as SEAL Liaison Officer to Army Special Forces and the Navy Operations Officer at Joint Special Operations Command.  In 1982, CDR Bailey assumed command of Naval Special Warfare Unit TWO at the Royal Air Force Base in Machrihanish, Scotland where he spent three years overseeing the activities of all SEAL operations in the European theatre.  Upon completing that tour of duty, CAPT Bailey received order to report as Commanding Officer of the Naval Special Warfare Center, US Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA where he oversaw the basic training of entry-level SEALs.  CAPT Bailey spent his final two years in the Navy as a Division Chief at the US Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL, where he retired in 1990 and received an Honorable Discharge. CAPT Bailey’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”, the Legion of Merit Medal (with Gold Star for second award), the Defense Superior Service Medal, and numerous other personal and campaign medals.

CAPT Bailey is a much-published author on military subjects and has worked at a number of non-profit/patriotic organizations since his retirement.  In 2004 he organized and led Vietnam Vets for the Truth, which opposed the candidacy of John Kerry, and in 2007 he Co-founded Gathering of Eagles (GOE), a military support organization.  GOE has donated over 150 laptop computers to Combat Veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan and has donated and shipped over 5000 pounds of Kona coffee to active-duty soldiers and Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan.  CAPT Bailey Co-founder with Col. Dick Brauer, USAF (Ret.), and is the current Operations Director of Special Operations Speaks, a "Super-PAC" formed to support Gov Mitt Romney in 2012.  That organization's Web site may be viewed at http://www.specialoperationsspeaks.com. CAPT Bailey is a life time member of the American Legion, the VFW, the UDT-SEAL Association, the UDT-SEAL Museum Association, and the National Rifle Association.

CAPT Bailey is married to the former Judy Alligood of Elizabeth City, NC and they reside in Chocowinity, North Carolina. They have a son CDR Tucker Bailey, a Naval Reserve Intelligence Officer who is Executive Officer of a Miami-based unit and is a full-time business consultant.  They have a daughter Hallie who received an MBA from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and is an investment analyst with a major financial firm.  The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is pleased to have CAPT Larry W. Bailey, USN (SEAL) (Ret), join its Board of Directors; we look forward to working with him.   The military is one of the few remaining institutions producing the caliber of men and women needed to restore this nation to the greatness our Founding Fathers envisioned.  CAPT Bailey is a Veteran who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount “up to and including his life.”

Female Marine Captain Who Is a Combat Veteran Argues Women Unfit For Combat In Infantry Units

There is very big difference in women flying combat missions, providing medical support in combat, in providing MP Guard duty, being involved in convoy duty, being involved in intelligence support, etc. and being in a Combat Infantry Unit for 3 months on end with improper hygiene facilities, with no breaks, and facing an enemy daily—face to face-- in a killing zone.

Fox News on Katie Petronio
http://video.foxnews.com/v/1821296256001/are-women-unfit-for-infantry-duty

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was well aware of the above listed video—so was Panetta.  They also knew full well that there is a legal requirement to notify Congress of changes regarding women in the military in advance of the issuance of the order Panetta signed, including the requirement that the Congress be provided with a report on the impact it would have upon the Selective Service System.  The Republican leadership of Congress has not asked for the report—Congress must act in this case!  Panetta was wrong in circumventing Congress, but it's up to the members of Congress to assert their Constitutional right and duty to provide oversight.

Combat Veterans For Congress---Board of Directors Appointees

The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is pleased to announce the appointment of a Combat Veteran to the Board of Directors; he is fiscally conservative, supports our efforts to reduce the national debt, rein in the out of control and irresponsible spending by the Obama Administration, and has continued his pledge to protect and defend the US Constitution.  Former Captain Don Bendell, USA (Green Beret), a decorated US Army Special Forces Officer, and Disabled Vietnam Veteran who resides on a ranch south of Florence, Colorado is joining the Board of Directors.  Don was raised in Ohio, and graduated from Tallmadge High School in Akron, Ohio in 1966.  In 1997 Don received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business from Colorado Christian University in Colorado Springs.  In 2011, Don received his Masters of Science Degree in Leadership from Ken Blanchard School of Business in Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ.

In 1966, following graduation from high school, Don was sworn into the US Army.  He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, GA, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey; he was assigned as a Military Policeman following AIT.  He volunteered for Infantry OCS, graduated in June of 1967 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, attended Jump School at Fort Benning, then was trained with the 7thSpecial Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he earned his Green Beret.  In June of 1968, Second Lieutenant Bendell was assigned to the 5thSpecial Forces Group in South Vietnam and was promoted to First Lieutenant.  First Lieutenant Bendell was assigned as the Executive Officer - Civil Affairs/Psych Operations Officer of Operational Detachment A-242 at Dak Pek in the northwestern corner of II Corps.  One month later he was assigned Additional Duty as District Coordinator for two districts in the Top Secret CIA-operated Phoenix Program in Dak Pek and Dak Sut Districts.  First Lieutenant Bendell and his 12 man A-Team were embedded with 700 Jeh Montagnard tribesmen in the most remote jungle location and highest mountains in South Vietnam, interdicting North Vietnamese Army forces coming into South Vietnam down the Ho Chi Minh Trail thru Laos.  Over the next 9 months 1stLT Bendell led company sized combat operations of the Montagnard warriors at the Special Forces Camps at Dak Seang, Dak To, Ben Het, Polei Kleng, and in the Plei Trap Valley.  In March 1969, 1stLT Bendell was medically-evacuated first to Japan and then back to Fort Bragg, NC. After recuperating, 1stLT Bendell was assigned to the 3rdSpecial Forces Group as the Assistant Staff Intelligence Officer (S2), shortly thereafter in June 1969 he was promoted to Captain.  CPT Bendell was assigned to be in charge of all Top Secret area studies for the continent of Africa. He attended the US Army Staff Intelligence Officers Course at Fort Holabird, MD and graduated on the Commandant’s List.  After the 3rdSpecial Forces Group was deactivated in late 1969 CPT Bendell was assigned as an Assistant Staff Operations Officer (S3) of the 6thSpecial Forces Group with responsibility for all countries in the Middle East.  In June, 1970, Capt Bendell was Honorably Discharged from the US Army.

Initially, Don went into Executive Sales, but eventually he opened and operated a Martial Arts School in North Carolina, to follow a passion he developed in the Army.  Don has followed that passion for over 46 years and is still refining his expertise in Martial Arts; Don is the Grandmaster Instructor in freestyle Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Jujitsu, Muay Thai, and owns & operates Bendell Karate in Pueblo West, Colorado.  In 1995, Don was inducted into the International Karate and Kickboxing Hall of Fame, and his wife Shirley was inducted in 2009, making them the only couple in history to both be Hall of Fame inductees.  In the mid-1970s, Don taught a combination of Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, and kickboxing at Fort Bragg, North Carolina Boxing Club twice per week to members of the US Army Special Forces and the 82nd Airborne Division.  He also assisted, as civilian volunteer, then Fort Bragg and 18th Airborne Corps Commanding General Hank Emmerson set up the US Army’s “Fit to Fight” program. In 2006, Don Bendell was appointed by the Colorado Governor to the Colorado Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, and served on the Council until 2012 under three governors.

Don Bendell is also a well known tracker and has searched for and has been successful tracking missing hikers and fugitives in his spare time, and wrote a hardcover book about it entitled “Tracks of Hope…a Memoir” which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.  Don has worked for and alongside many law enforcement agencies doing so including the Navajo Tribal Police, the FBI, etc.  Two of the 26 books that Don authored have been listed as number one on the Amazon.Com best-seller list in the past 2 years; there are over 3 million copies of his 26 books in print worldwide.  Don also wrote, produced, directed, and co-starred in a low budget action full length feature film which was distributed in 164 countries in 1984.

Don was the National Deputy Executive Director for Veterans for Romney in the 2012 Presidential Campaign.  Don is a Decader Life Member and former President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Special Forces Association, a Life Member of the Special Operations Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, and the American Legion.   Don Bendell has appeared on the FOX News Network, been interviewed on many national radio talk shows, and has been the subject of feature stories in “Black Belt,” “Soldier Of Fortune,” “Roundup,” American Cowboy,” “American Spectator,” “BowHunter,” “ Washington Times”, and has had his conservative editorials published in many other national publications and blogs.

Don Bendell has been married to his wife Shirley for 31 years; two of their grown sons are E-7 Non Commissioned Officers and decorated members of the Green Berets, serving with the 10thSpecial Forces Group at Fort Carson, CO.  Don also has two grown daughters, two other grown sons, and 11 grandchildren.   The Combat Veterans For Congress PAC is pleased to have former US Special Forces Captain Don Bendell, USA (Green Beret) join its Board of Directors; we looks forward to working with him.   The military is one of the few remaining institutions producing the caliber of men and women needed to restore this nation to the greatness our Founding Fathers envisioned.  Captain Bendell is a Veteran who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for an amount “up to and including his life.”

The Awful Realities and Harmful Consequences That Awaits Women In Combat

There is a reason why in the Olympics there is women's competition and men's competition, why there is a professional men's basketball leagues and a professional women's basketball leagues, and why basic military recruit training for men is different from basic military recruit training for women.  In weight, stamina, and strength there are major differences between men and women; in the overwhelming number of cases women cannot keep up with men in those areas----however there may be some unique exceptions.   The action taken by the Secretary of Defense yesterday, bypassing Congress in the decision making process, with the concurrence of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who sat there wide eyed without saying a word, imposed another of Obama’s radical “diversity” agendas upon the US  Armed Forces.  The radical decision flies in the face of the many studies completed by the US Marine Corps, US Army, and Congress over the last 10 years, those studies resulted in Congress setting rules that prevented women from being drafted and from being assigned to front line infantry ground combat units.  Recently two female enlisted US Marines were allowed to train with male Marines, in order to qualify for assignment to infantry ground combat units; they failed miserably and their video interviews are truly revealing.  One of the trainees said they couldn't keep up with their male counterparts during the sustained and long period of training required to qualify, that their legs gave out from under them, that their stamina was not up to their male counterparts, and that they could no longer carry their heavy back packs; they asked to be relieved (they weren't under the added pressure of being under an enemy firing weapons in an attempt to kill them).  At a minimum, the House Armed Services Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee should review the data gathered from that most recent physical endurance test, conduct immediate oversight hearings, and make public the results of the extensive research completed on the study of “Women in Land Combat” gathered by the US Marine Corp last year, in which those two female Marines were involved.  The data does not support Panetta's move to put women into front line ground combat units, and before the radical decision becomes de facto law, Congress and the American people need to know why women in front line ground combat units will not work and how it will degrade the Combat Effectiveness of combat units.  Panetta’s announcement is not a “gift” to female military enlisted personnel who have expressed very little interest in being ordered into front line ground combat infantry units.

For four years, the Social Experiments on Diversity has been forced upon a captive US military force whose senior flag leaders have not objected to Obama’s civilian appointees at DOD orders that degrades Combat Effectiveness; each new initiative further damages the unit cohesiveness and moral of the US Armed Forces.  Article I, Section 8, of the US Constitution gives the power to the Congress “To make rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and Naval Forces.” There is a legal requirement to notify Congress of changes regarding women in the military in advance of the issuance of the order Panetta signed, including the requirement that the Congress be provided with a report on the impact it would have upon the Selective Service System, but the Republican leadership of Congress has not asked for the report—Congress must act in this case!  Panetta was wrong in circumventing Congress, but it's up to the members of Congress to assert their Constitutional right and duty to provide oversight.   Every study completed on “Women In Combat” has come to the conclusion that women in combat are less likely to survive front line ground combat operations than men.  It is extremely dangerous to imbed women in tip of the spear military units like SEAL Teams, the Green Berets, Rangers, Special Forces, Airborne units, the Delta Force, etc. because they will experience difficulty in required stamina, and strength that will slow down the units they are assigned to; they will not be able to shoulder the same sized back packs over extended periods of time in combat operation, they don't have the same strength to meet and overcome an enemy combatant on the ground, face to face, and the unavoidable normal male/female sexual attraction within the units damages unit cohesion/unity (a unit’s Combat Effectiveness is degraded when female members become  pregnant—this has become a very serious problem for US Navy ships scheduled to depart on 6 month deployments, because so many female crew members become pregnant that the ships can’t be fully manned).  There is absolutely no evidence that putting female military personnel in front line ground infantry units will strengthen the US Armed Forces—that is the trumped up story being promulgated by the Obama Administration which is another outright lie.

It is one thing for a woman to be able to qualify, using the same rigorous qualification criteria as men, in order to be assigned to a front line ground combat infantry unit.  After they have successfully completed the same rigorous qualification requirements as men, have been imbedded in front line ground combat infantry units, it will be another thing to be engaged in  "sustained" combat operations for many months on end without a break, many times operating in mud without sanitary hygiene facilities during the monthly menstrual cycles.  The combat environment is very different from what the majority of Americans understand it to be.  Please read the below listed article that will reveal the unvarnished truth about the awful realities facing US military personnel in front line ground combat operations, those realities have been swept aside by Chairman Dempsey in order to comply with Obama's Experiment on Diversity.  The harsh realities of combat operations cannot be easily swept aside by active duty military personnel who are involved in them, and by Veterans who have lived through those same front line ground combat operations.  After you read the below listed Wall Street Journal article, ask yourself if you would want your daughter or granddaughter to be drafted and then be required to serve in front line ground combat infantry units, during sustained combat operations where men in an enemy force are trying to kill them (the prohibition for women in combat was the only barrier that saved our daughters and granddaughters  from being threatened with the draft in a national emergency--now that barrier has been removed by Obama---think about it)?  There are thousands of male military personnel who would volunteer to fill ground combat infantry billets.

The Reality That Awaits Women In Combat
A Pentagon push to mix the sexes ignores how awful cheek-by-jowl life is on the battlefield.
By Ryan Smith

America has been creeping closer and closer to allowing women in combat, so Wednesday's news that the decision has now been made is not a surprise. It appears that female soldiers will be allowed on the battlefield but not in the infantry. Yet it is a distinction without much difference: Infantry units serve side-by-side in combat with artillery, engineers, drivers, medics and others who will likely now include women. The Pentagon would do well to consider realities of life in combat as it pushes to mix men and women on the battlefield.

Many articles have been written regarding the relative strength of women and the possible effects on morale of introducing women into all-male units.

Less attention has been paid to another aspect: the absolutely dreadful conditions under which grunts live during war.

Most people seem to believe that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have merely involved driving out of a forward operating base, patrolling the streets, maybe getting in a quick firefight, and then returning to the forward operating base and its separate shower facilities and chow hall. The reality of modern infantry combat, at least the portion I saw, bore little resemblance to this sanitized view.

I served in the 2003 invasion of Iraq as a Marine infantry squad leader. We rode into war crammed in the back of amphibious assault vehicles. They are designed to hold roughly 15 Marines snugly; due to maintenance issues, by the end of the invasion we had as many as 25 men stuffed into the back.

Marines were forced to sit, in full gear, on each other's laps and in contorted positions for hours on end. That was the least of our problems.

The invasion was a blitzkrieg. The goal was to move as fast to Baghdad as possible. The column would not stop for a lance corporal, sergeant, lieutenant, or even a company commander to go to the restroom. Sometimes we spent over 48 hours on the move without exiting the vehicles. We were forced to urinate in empty water bottles inches from our comrades.

Many Marines developed dysentery from the complete lack of sanitary conditions. When an uncontrollable urge hit a Marine, he would be forced to stand, as best he could, hold an MRE bag up to his rear, and defecate inches from his seated comrade's face.

During the invasion, we wore chemical protective suits because of the fear of chemical or biological weapon attack. These are equivalent to a ski jumpsuit and hold in the heat. We also had to wear black rubber boots over our desert boots. On the occasions the column did stop, we would quickly peel off our rubber boots, desert boots and socks to let our feet air out.

Due to the heat and sweat, layers of our skin would peel off our feet. However, we rarely had time to remove our suits or perform even the most basic hygiene. We quickly developed sores on our bodies.

When we did reach Baghdad, we were in shambles. We had not showered in well over a month and our chemical protective suits were covered in a mixture of filth and dried blood. We were told to strip and place our suits in pits to be burned immediately. My unit stood there in a walled-in compound in Baghdad, naked, sores dotted all over our bodies, feet peeling, watching our suits burn. Later, they lined us up naked and washed us off with pressure washers.

Yes, a woman is as capable as a man of pulling a trigger. But the goal of our nation's military is to fight and win wars. Before taking the drastic step of allowing women to serve in combat units, has the government considered whether introducing women into the above-described situation would have made my unit more or less combat effective?

Societal norms are a reality, and their maintenance is important to most members of a society. It is humiliating enough to relieve yourself in front of your male comrades; one can only imagine the humiliation of being forced to relieve yourself in front of the opposite sex. Despite the professionalism of Marines, it would be distracting and potentially traumatizing to be forced to be naked in front of the opposite sex, particularly when your body has been ravaged by lack of hygiene. In the reverse, it would be painful to witness a member of the opposite sex in such an uncomfortable and awkward position. Combat effectiveness is based in large part on unit cohesion.

The relationships among members of a unit can be irreparably harmed by forcing them to violate societal norms.

The Tax Division of the Justice Department under Eric Holder has been conducting Para-military type raids on small business enterprises to conduct audits; those raids have soared in the last 4 years. Holder with support of Obama has been conducting outright aggressive assaults on the Free Enterprise System in violation of Article 1, Section 9 of the US Constitution; US citizens are not to be detained without their right to call an attorney for representation.  The two pillars of freedom guaranteed by the US Constitution are the right to property and privacy rights; Holder has been routinely violating those rights.  The US Congress must prevent Holder from violating the US Constitution, and the liberties of US citizens by continuing to employ the Gestapo tactics depicted in the below listed video.  Holder’s tactics, justifying them by investigating tax issues, are a clear violation of the 4th Amendment and should not be permitted in the United States.   Please click on the below listed link to view the video documenting a rampant violation of rights of US firms like Mountain Pure Water, Gibson Guitar, and Duncan Outdoor, Inc. who are guaranteed inalienable rights under the US Constitution.

How The US Senate Votes

If you click on the below listed link to listen to Senator Paul, you will fully understand why American voters must change the makeup of the US Senate in 2014.  We encourage all Americans to support our initiative to elect patriotic and responsible Combat Veterans For Congress in the 2014 mid-term election, if their numbers are increased from the 19 that are serving in the 113th Congress, they will contribute substantially to reining in the out of control spending by a Congress made up of 516 other members, and by the irresponsible Obama Administration.

Cross Border Authority and Dereliction Of Duty

The below listed synopsis from a retired US Navy SEAL Officer in Hawaii is not new to many active duty flag officers.  The Cross Border Authority issue is important in light of the pending testimony by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton before the US Congress about the Benghazi debacle.  The well-coordinated and planned attack by over 100 Al Q’ieda led terrorists on the anniversary of 9/11 was being watched in real time in the White House Situation Room from a live video feed from two drones flying overhead in shifts.  One of several key questions that should be posed to Secretary Clinton will reveal a great deal about the failure of the Obama Administration to come to the aid of Americans under attack who repeatedly cried for help over  an 8 hour period is “was Cross Border Authority ever issued on 9/11/12”?

The below listed synopsis will outline where the “Accountability” lies, and will explain the “Dereliction of Duty” at the highest levels that resulted in the murder of four Americans, including two US Navy SEALs, in the Al Q’ieda led terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on 9/11/12.

This synopsis clearly illustrates what an ill prepared and incompetent leadership gap there is in this country right now.

The Benghazi debacle boils down to a single key factor - the granting or withholding of "cross-border authority." This opinion is informed by my experience as a Navy SEAL officer who took a NavSpecWar Detachment to Beirut. Once the alarm is sent - in this case, from the consulate in Benghazi - dozens of HQs are notified and are in the planning loop in real time, including AFRICOM and EURCOM, both located in Germany. Without waiting for specific orders from Washington, they begin planning and executing rescue operations, including moving personnel, ships, and aircraft forward toward the location of the crisis. However, there is one thing they can't do without explicit orders from the president: cross an international border on a hostile mission. That is the clear "red line" in this type of a crisis situation. No administration wants to stumble into a war because a jet jockey in hot pursuit (or a mixed-up SEAL squad in a rubber boat) strays into hostile territory. Because of this, only the president can give the order for our military to cross a nation's border without that nation's permission. For the Osama bin Laden mission, President Obama granted CBA for our forces to enter Pakistani airspace.

On the other side of the CBA coin: in order to prevent a military rescue in Benghazi, all the President of the United States "(POTUS)" has to do is not grant cross-border authority. If he does not, the entire rescue mission (already in progress) must stop in its tracks. Ships can loiter on station, but airplanes fall out of the sky, so they must be redirected to an air base (Sigonella, in Sicily) to await the POTUS decision on granting CBA. If the decision to grant CBA never comes, the besieged diplomatic outpost in Benghazi can rely only on assets already "in country" in Libya - such as the Tripoli quick reaction force and the Predator drones. These assets can be put into action on the independent authority of the acting ambassador or CIA station chief in Tripoli. They are already "in country," so CBA rules do not apply to them.

How might this process have played out in the White House? If, at the 5:00 p.m. Oval Office meeting with Defense Secretary Panetta and Vice President Biden, President Obama said about Benghazi: "I think we should not go the military action route," meaning that no CBA will be granted, then that is it. Case closed.

Another possibility is that the president might have said: "We should do what we can to help them . but no military intervention from outside of Libya." Those words then constitute "standing orders" all the way down the chain of command, via Panetta and General Dempsey to General Ham and the subordinate commanders who are already gearing up to rescue the besieged outpost. When that meeting took place, it may have seemed as if the consulate attack was over, so President Obama might have thought the situation would stabilize on its own from that point forward. If he then goes upstairs to the family quarters, or otherwise makes himself "unavailable," then his last standing orders will continue to stand until he changes them, even if he goes to sleep until the morning of September 12. Nobody in the chain of command below President Obama can countermand his "standing orders" not to send outside military forces into Libyan air space. Nobody. Not Leon Panetta, not Hillary Clinton, not General Dempsey, and not General Ham in Stuttgart, Germany, who is in charge of the forces staging in Sigonella.

Perhaps the president left "no outside military intervention, no cross-border authority" standing orders, and then made himself scarce to those below him seeking further guidance, clarification, or modified orders. Or perhaps he was in the Situation Room watching the Predator videos in live time for all seven hours. We don't yet know where the president was hour by hour. But this is 100 percent sure: Panetta and Dempsey would have executed a rescue mission order if the president had given those orders. And like the former SEALs in Benghazi, General Ham and all of the troops under him would have been straining forward in their harnesses, ready to go into battle to save American lives. The execute orders would be given verbally to General Ham at AFRICOM in Stuttgart, but they would immediately be backed up in official message traffic for the official record. That is why cross-border authority is the King Arthur's Sword for understanding Benghazi. The POTUS and only the POTUS can pull out that sword. We can be 100% certain that cross-border authority was never given. How do I know this? Because if CBA was granted and the rescue mission execute orders were handed down, irrefutable records exist today in at least a dozen involved component commands, and probably many more. No general or admiral will risk being hung out to dry for undertaking a mission-gone-wrong that the POTUS later disavows ordering, and instead blames on "loose cannons" or "rogue officers" exceeding their authority. No general or admiral will order U.S. armed forces to cross an international border on a hostile mission unless and until he is certain that the National Command Authority, in the person of the POTUS and his chain of command, has clearly and explicitly given that order: verbally at the outset, but thereafter in written orders and official messages. If they exist, they could be produced today. When it comes to granting cross-border authority, there are no presidential mumblings or musings to paraphrase or decipher. If you hear confusion over parsed statements given as an excuse for Benghazi, then you are hearing lies. I am sure that hundreds of active-duty military officers know all about the Benghazi execute orders (or the lack thereof), and I am impatiently waiting for one of them to come forward to risk his career and pension as a whistleblower. Leon Panetta is falling on his sword for President Obama with his absurd-on-its-face, "the U.S. military doesn't do risky things"-defense of his shameful no-rescue policy. Panetta is utterly destroying his reputation. General Dempsey joins Panetta on the same sword with his tacit agreement by silence. But why? How far does loyalty extend when it comes to covering up gross dereliction of duty by the president?

General Petraeus, however, has indirectly blown the whistle. He was probably "used" in some way early in the cover-up with the purported CIA intel link to the Mohammed video, and now he feels burned. So he conclusively said via his public affairs officer that the stand-down order did not come from the CIA. Well - what outranks the CIA? Only the national security team at the White House. That means President Obama, and nobody else. Petraeus is naming Obama without naming him. If that is not quite as courageous as blowing a whistle, it is far better than the disgraceful behavior of Panetta and Dempsey.

We do not know the facts for certain, but we do know that the rescue mission stand-down issue revolves around the granting or withholding of cross-border authority, which belongs only to President Obama. More than one hundred gung-ho Force Recon Marines were waiting on the tarmac in Sigonella, just two hours away for the launch order that never came.

$4 Trillion in Additional Debt With No Cuts in Spending

One of the endorsed Combat Veterans For Congress, GySgt Nick Popaditch, USMC (Ret), provided us with the below listed link so we could share the video, in it, with you.  The message in that video will provide you with some hope for the 2014 mid-term election, when we will field a new slate of Combat Veterans For Congress, and will campaign for the re-election of the 19 Combat Veterans For Congress who will be serving in the 113th Congress.  Our goal has been to replace the members of Congress who continue the irresponsible out of control spending, and especially for the members of Congress who just voted to support Obama’s NEW INCREASE IN TAXES!

We are as disgusted as you are, that the Congress did not deal with or solve the out of control spending at all; once again the Congress kicked the can down the road, and just gave working America citizens $41 in increased taxes for every $1 Democrats “said” they cut spending.  They did not cut spending at all, they cut the increases in spending by $1 for every $41 in new taxes—it is just Orwellian double speak.  The agreement Obama crafted gives the American people $4 trillion in new debt, without cutting spending at all.

The irresponsible Congress should have cut spending (the real problem) and should have cut taxes which would have stimulated the economy, as it did during the administrations of President Harding, President Eisenhower, President Kennedy, President Reagan, and President Clinton.  Obama raised taxes on every American citizen with 20 new taxes in the flawed Obama Health Care Bill, with massive increase in Social Security taxes, and by imposing an increase in payroll taxes on every working American citizen.

The American middle class was not spared from new taxes, like Obama kept saying he would guarantee that they would be spared in his campaign for increased taxes.  Obama with the help of the press won the PR battle, the Republican leadership in Congress caved, and the Congress increased taxes on all Americans.  The left of center liberal media establishment continues the cover-up of Obama’s lies about his intent to “cut spending hand and hand with new taxes” that Obama repeatedly promised the American voters during his 2 year campaign for re-election. There is no fiscal responsibility in the Oval Office or in Congress.  Please click on the below link—it will give you some hope about our message going forward in 2014.

Obama's Inept Selection for Secretary of State

John Kerry: Obama’s “Perfect Choice” For Secretary of State (Per President Obama)

December 22, 2012 By John Perazzo

Description: http://c481901.r1.cf2.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/kerry44-450x296.jpg

When Barack Obama nominated John Kerry to be America’s next Secretary of State Friday afternoon, he called Kerry the “perfect choice” to replace Hillary Clinton. Stating that “few individuals … grasp our foreign policies as firmly as John Kerry,” Obama said the Senator will not “need a lot of on-the-job training.” He then praised Mr. Kerry’s combat service in the Vietnam War and his subsequent tenure of service in the Senate, where Kerry has been intimately involved in “every major foreign policy debate for the past 30 years.”  Notably, President Obama made no mention of what occurred after Kerry’s military service and before his political career. Perhaps this is because what Kerry did during that time would be difficult even for an adroit wordsmith like Obama to summarize with just a pithy phrase or two of adulation.

The historical record informs us that not only has John Kerry been on the wrong side of every major foreign policy issue for most of his adult life, including Iraq, Nicaragua and most recently in Syria, but he has routinely engaged in deception to conceal his folly. What’s worse, Kerry has a clear record of giving aid and comfort to America’s enemies, all the while never missing an opportunity to viciously trash our brave forces fighting against them.

With Obama’s nomination of Kerry to head the State Department, therefore, a look back at Kerry’s “service” to this country becomes more pertinent than ever:

After being discharged from the Navy in early 1970, Kerry joined Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW) and became a major figure in the so-called “peace” movement, whose hallmarks were a deep wellspring of hatred for the United States coupled with sympathy for America’s Communist enemy. In May 1970, Kerry, without government authorization, met personally with North Vietnamese and Viet Cong delegations in Paris to discuss a list of “peace” proposals enumerated by Nguyen Thi Madame Binh, the top Viet Cong delegate to the Paris Peace talks. In the aftermath of that illegal meeting, Kerry stronglyadvised the U.S. Senate to accept Binh’s proposals.

At that time, Kerry himself acknowledged that his visit to Paris was “on the borderline” of legality. Actually, it extended far beyond that “borderline.” Afederal law known as the Uniform Code of Military Justice prescribed severe punishment (including, in some cases, the death penalty) for any person who “without proper authority, knowingly harbors or protects or gives intelligence to or communicates or corresponds with or holds any intercourse with the enemy, either directly or indirectly.”

During the ensuing months, Kerry, with increasing stridency, continued to exhortthe U.S. to accept the Viet Cong peace proposals. His radical VVAW comrades went so far as to sign a “People’s Peace Treaty,” whose nine points were all extracted from a list of Viet Cong conditions for ending the war. Kerry fullysupported this treaty.

On April 22, 1971, Kerry famously testified to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations that many U.S. servicemen in Vietnam had “personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war …” “We learned the meaning of free fire zones,” added Kerry. “Shooting anything that moves, and we watched while America placed a cheapness on the lives of Orientals.” Moreover, Kerryemphasized that America’s “war crimes” in Southeast Asia were “not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command.” This was an outright lie, because Kerry was only in country for 4 months in the middle of a river in the Mekong Delta with the Riverine Force, and couldn’t have possibly witnessed the atrocities, even if he had been in the front lines for several years.

Army reports that were unearthed decades later resoundingly discredited the claims of Kerry and his fellow VVAW members, proving those claims to be essentially a pack of lies. When Kerry was running for U.S. President in 2004, the publication U.S. Veteran Dispatch noted that Kerry’s 1971 Senate testimony had “occurred while some of his fellow Vietnam veterans were known by the world to be enduring terrible suffering as prisoners of war in North Vietnamese prisons.” Similarly, retired General George S. Patton III charged that Kerry’s actions had given “aid and comfort to the enemy.” And the organization Vietnam Veterans Against John Kerry stated:

“As a national leader of VVAW, Kerry campaigned against the effort of the United States to contain the spread of Communism. He used the blood of servicemen still in the field for his own political advancement by claiming that their blood was being shed unnecessarily or in vain…. Under Kerry’s leadership, VVAW members mocked the uniform of United States soldiers by wearing tattered fatigues marked with pro-communist graffiti. They dishonored America by marching in demonstrations under the flag of the Viet Cong enemy.”

Yet today, this same John Kerry has been nominated to serve as Secretary of State for the same nation he trashed so relentlessly in the ’70s. Only in America.

After graduating law school, working in a district attorney’s office, and serving a brief
stint as Massachusetts’ lieutenant governor, Kerry was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984. Just a few months later—on April 18, 1985—Kerry and fellow Democratic Senator Tom Harkin traveled to Nicaragua tomeet with President Daniel Ortega, whose Communist Sandinista government had strong ties to the Soviet Union and Cuba. Through Kerry and Harkin, President Ortega offered a cease-fire agreement on the condition that the Reagan Administration stop aiding the rebel Contras who were then at war with the Sandinistas. Reagan rejected the offer as a transparent “propaganda initiative” designed to influence an upcoming House vote on a $14 million Contra-aid package, but Kerry said: “I am willing … to take the risk in the effort to put to test the good faith of the Sandinistas.” The House of Representatives ultimately voted against the Contra aid. The following day, Ortega flew to Moscow to accept a $200 million loan from the Soviets. Presumably this was one of the many “major foreign policy debates” in which, by President Obama’s reckoning, Kerry had so impressively distinguished himself.

Unchastened by the evidence of his own poor judgment, Kerry in 1986 supported a “fast for life” initiative by four U.S. military veterans protesting President Reagan’s “illegal and extraordinarily vicious wars against the poor of Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Guatemala.” Also in the 1980s, Senator Kerryhired Gareth Porter, a former fellow of the consistently pro-Soviet Institute for Policy Studies, as a legislative aide. And in 2002, Kerry sent his warmgreetings to a major gathering of the Democratic Socialists of America‘s Boston chapter.

Kerry’s next opportunity to distinguish himself as a man of exceedingly poor character was furnished by the conflict in Iraq. Initially, Kerry voted to authorize the use of military force against Saddam Hussein, a position the Senator based on his firm conviction—which he publicly articulated on numerous occasions—that Saddam was aggressively seeking to develop weapons of mass destruction. During the weeks and months leading up to the March 2003 U.S. invasion, for example, Kerry made the following statements:

  • “It would be naive to the point of great danger not to believe that, left to his own devices, Saddam Hussein will misjudge, provoke and stumble into a future, more dangerous confrontation with the civilized world. He has as much as promised it.”
  • “If Saddam Hussein is unwilling to bend to the international community’s already existing order, then he will have invited enforcement …”
  • “Without question we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal and murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. And we all know the litany of his offenses.”
  • “People have forgotten that for seven and a half years, we found weapons of mass destruction [in Iraq]. We were destroying weapons of mass destruction.”

But as the political winds shifted, Kerry and his fellow congressional Democrats began to portray, with ever-growing frequency, the Iraq War as a foreign-policy debacle that had been launched hastily and without justifiable cause.

In 2004, for instance, Kerry charged that President Bush had not only “misled the American people” about the threat posed by Saddam, but also had “arbitrarily” decided that the “time for diplomacy is over” and “rushed our nation to war.” During a presidential debate that October, Kerry said: “Saddam Hussein didn’t attack us. Osama bin Laden attacked us. Al Qaeda attacked us.”

Not content to smear only the Commander-in-Chief, Senator Kerry also accused U.S. servicemen of “terrorizing” the Iraqi people. On December 4, 2005, he told Bob Schieffer on Face the Nation: “And there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children, you know, women …”

For John Kerry, it was 1971 all over again.

In recent years, as columnist Arnold Ahlert has so aptly written, Kerry “has been the federal government’s highest-ranking apologist for Syrian President Bashar Assad.” Indeed it was Kerry who repeatedly tried to undermine the Bush Administration’s efforts to isolate the dictator. Under Obama, Kerry has pursued with renewed vigor his impulse to engage Assad. During a January 2009 visit to Damascus, for instance, the Senator listened attentively to Assad’s admonition that Washington must “move away from a policy based on dictating decisions” to Syria. Kerry, in turn, said: “Unlike the Bush administration that believed you could simply tell people what to do and walk away and wait for them to do it, we believe you have to engage in a discussion.” In April 2010, Kerry again met with Assad and called Syria “an essential player in bringing peace and stability to the region.”

Forty-thousand dead bodies later, one tries vainly to reconcile John Kerry’s track record with President Obama’s glowing description of him as the “perfect choice” for Secretary of State. One can only ponder with trepidation what dark days lay ahead for America with this hate-America veteran taking the reins at the State Department.
